Atmospheric Neutrinos and Astrophysical Neutrinos in Proton Decay Experiments

Abstract

We present simple analytical estimates of the fluxes of atmospheric and interstellar neutrinos. We show that the geomagnetic cutoff strongly suppresses the fluxes of atmospheric neutrinos below 1 GeV from directions of low magnetic latitudes and may open a window for neutrino astronomy. We demonstrate the validity of our estimates through indirect tests.
