Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia

The precursors to invasive squamous cell (epidermoid) carcinoma of the cervix are among the most extensively studied lesions occurring in women. Despite such wealth of data, there are considerable differences of opinion regarding the natural history of preinvasive cervical neoplasia. Most of these controversies are attributable to differences in definitions and terminology of the disease as well as to differences in techniques of investigation and methods of data analysis.
