Light Scattering from Structured Particles

In many problems, particularly in the field of biology1 it is of interest to study the dynamical behavior of scattering centers with dimensions comparable or larger than the wavelength of light. Recently, a model calculation has been published2 which describes the scatterer as a coated ellipsoid. It is found that the width of the correlation function exhibits a periodic dependence on scattering angle which is characteristic of the interference pattern produced by the shape and the internal structure of the particle. The results of this work by Chen et al. will be outlined briefly in the following article.
