Much of modern science is concerned with the application of an appropriate physical technique to some significant and well-defined problem. Limitations of time, experience, knowledge and insight make this very difficult to achieve, and these factors are nowhere more evident than in the application of time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy to biological systems.
