The Informal Sector and Shelter Provision in the Caribbean

  • Robert Dubinsky

Abstract

The Caribbean, like the rest of the developing world, is experiencing dramatic population growth and urbanization. Cities are growing rapidly as population increase continues at a high level and large numbers of people, mostly poor, continue to move to cities in search of employment and a better life. At the same time, Caribbean countries are finding it difficult to create enough jobs to deal with the problems of unemployment, and public debt both internal and external is increasing at a rapid pace.
