Optical Properties of Cerium and Uranium Compounds

New or very recent results of the optical properties of CeS, CeN, US, UAs and UxY1−xSb are presented. A correlation is established between the oscillator strength of f→d and d→f transitions and the delocalization of the f states. For CeN good agreement is obtained with a band structure calculation. In the pseudobinary system UxY1−xSb a valence transition near x = 0.15 is found.
