E2 Matrix Elements and Shape Coexistence in 110Pd

  • Chapter
Interacting Bose-Fermi Systems in Nuclei

Part of the book series: Ettore Majorana International Science Series ((EMISS,volume 10))

Abstract

The Ru, Pd and Cd nuclei lie in a well known shape transition region. The low-lying level spectra exhibit features characteristic of an anharmonic vibrator while the B(E2) values are enhanced by around 50 single particle units.1 Calculations have been made for some of these nuclei using both the Interacting Boson Model2 and the Boson Expansion Theory.3 The purpose o the present work is to measure the E2 properties, which are especially sensitive to the quadrupole collective shape parameters in order to investigate the collectivity and to differentiate between the competing collective models.
