Specimen Handling

  • Ralph R. Grams

Probably the most significant design challenge for a laboratory system is to devise a method by which the specimens can be transported to and from the laboratory and coordinated with the proper results and retrieval of information. There are not many choices available when approaching this type of work, and most of the information we have gathered has been by trial and error, using the actual environment of the hospital laboratory facilities as a test medium. In fact, virtually every combination and permutation of specimen problem has been run against our current configuration; so far there are no known failures to report.
