Difficulties in Implementing Advanced Manufacturing Technology in Small Manufacturing Companies

Summary

Case histories of the attempts of seven small manufacturers to introduce new technologies are described. In four cases the companies have been assisted by deployment of both academic staff and newly qualified graduates to implement the changes. The effectiveness of this approach is discussed.
