Summary

This paper discusses the development of an intelligent interface to enable computer-controlled assembly, metal-cutting machines, etc., to be linked together and integrated with supervisory, production control, database and production management computer systems. The aim is to provide the basis of a general and cost-effective solution to the problems of flexibility and efficient utilization within manufacturing environments.
