A Solution to Machine Group Analysis Employing Auxiliary Cell Formation
The paper introduces a technique for determining the primary group structure of machining cells. It is based upon the process characteristics of each component (m) and considers the interprocess flows as a series of (m − l)(m/2) auxiliary cells. Then, based upon product demand and cell size, it employs a simple voting technique to form the limiting machine groups. Solutions produced against other methodologies currently available indicate that the technique offers effectively simple solutions to a wider range of problems. Additional, since the technique is deterministic, it is ideally suited for computer application to larger scale problems.
