The Changing Patterns of Protein-Calorie Malnutrition in the Sudan
Protein-calorie malnutrition is one of the most major child health problems in the Sudan. Its magnitude is reflected in the high incidence in the most vulnerable age-groups of 1 to 3 years. During the last 15 years the pattern of the disease is showing significant changes in the clinical, aetiological and prognostic aspects. Since protein-calorie malnutrition is a complex nutritional problem in which multiple causes, especially social, economical, cultural, medical, psychological and ecological factors, play important roles, the changes in pattern of this disease is expected in any developing community where progressive modern changes are taking place.
