Abstract

Within the last two decades, titanium and titanium-base alloys have been produced and metallurgically developed for critical aerospace applications. Titanium alloys, through government and industrial R&D, are now produced for structural use as well as for critical rotating engine components. The success of titanium and titanium alloys has been realized in spite of its higher cost brought on, in part, by limitations in melting technology.
