Abstract
The first part of this paper will describe the limits in terms of both equipment and applications. This will be followed by a brief description of the technical application of computers at Rolls Royce which led up to the work on computer graphics. The main part of the paper is split into three sections describing past, present and future applications in Mechanical Design at Rolls Royce.

Biographical Note
B. T. Torson received the B.A. degree from Cambridge University in 1957. Since then he has been working at Rolls Royce Ltd. helping engineers and designers define their problems and formulate solutions, particularly in the field of mechanical design. He now heads the Computer Aided Design and Manufacture project.
