Abstract

Equalizers and filters are among the oldest signal processing devices in recording. The technology goes back to early telephony in the 1800s, when equalizers were used to make the output of a transmission system “equal” to its input. The term has remained in recording and broadcasting as a description of any device that alters the frequency response of a transmission channel in any way.
