Defect Generation in Metal Crystals

Abstract

There is no comprehensive study setting down explicit relations between the growth conditions of a metal crystal and its crystalline perfection. From studies published so far we can infer at best tendencies that qualitatively indicate the influence of a given parameter of the growth method on the perfection of the crystal obtained. Difficulty arises from different factors: the number of parameters quantitatively defining a growth process is very high. Those parameters sometimes are ill defined and they are dependent on one another. Besides, within the growth process must be included the initial phase of crystal generation, generally at high temperature, as well as the phase of cooling to room temperature as crystalline perfection is generally assessed at such temperature.
