Pseudo-Brewster Angle Technique for Determining Optical Constants
The optical properties of solids have proven to be extremely useful in determining the physical characteristics of crystalline solids. Although a great deal of information has been gained from normal reflectance measurements on opaque samples, including the application of the Kramers—Kronig dispersion relations to such data, much additional information can be gained from the direct determination of the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant. There have been several techniques used in the past, based on similar approaches, for measuring reflectances as a function of the angle of incidence. However, they all have one common drawback in that they require graphical solutions of the expressions containing related coefficients. This requirement increases the difficult of acquiring sufficient data to perform optical constant “spectroscopy” with the required resolution.
