Reasons for Distrusting Human Risk Assessment Based Solely on In Vitro or Animal Test Results
I apologize for having exploited my position as leader of what should have been a round table discussion deliberately to monopolize the first half of it, but you’ve had nearly two weeks to discuss what causes cancer in cells, and I wanted two hours to discuss what causes it in people.* Could I now invite comments not so much on the epidemiological perspective, which is probably more or less correct, but on my much less soundly based belief that risk assessment, by which I mean the estimation of absolute human risks from the results of laboratory studies, is not scientifically justifiable now or in the foreseeable future?
