The NATO Deployment Model

Abstract

The development of a defence plan for conventional war in the NATO Central Region and a deployment of forces to put the plan into effect requires a major staff effort in the principal NATO Command Headquarters. At best it is possible to study only a few alternative plans before one is selected for implementation. This approach is usually adequate because each new plan follows logically from its predecessor. The changes accommodate relatively small variations in force structure and force levels.
