The Potential Role of Densification in Biomass Utilization

Increases in the price of conventional forms of energy and in many cases reductions in their availability are now generally understood to be inevitable. This is due to a number of factors:
  • the finite nature of most conventional forms of energy

  • the inordinate power over oil price of the OPEC cartel

  • the regional and international discrepancies that exist between energy supply and demand

  • the potentially serious health and environmental questions regarding the use of nuclear fuels and coal

  • the increasing demands being made from Third World countries for fossil fuels as they continue to industrialize

  • the increasing demand for all forms of energy in the developed world.
