Abstract

We examined the ability of peptides corresponding to different regions of hen eggwhite lysozyme to stimulate proliferative T-cell responses in several mouse strains. The relationship of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) and other non-MHC genes to the T cell repertoire was studied. It was found that the MHC was the major influence on the specificity of the T cell repertoire. The T cell response following immunization with native hen eggwhite lysozyme was also investigated. Challenge with the whole protein preferentially induces responses to some determinants compared to others. Hence, some regions of the protein appear to be immunodominant while other determinants are sub-dominant.
