Photon Scattering at Very High Energies — OR: How does the Photon Evolve?

In the framework of this Course on the Gauge Interaction, it is appropriate that we take a close look at the quantum of that basic gauge field which we believe to have a solid grip on, at the photon. The carrier of the electromagnetic field has, of course, been shown to be precisely described by Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) in its interactions with point-like leptons. The question of interest here is this: what have we gleaned from the manifestations of the photon in kinematical regimes where its coupling to heavier particles becomes intimately entangled with observables?
