There are many aspects of cellular ageing which are not yetsolved. Two important problems are whether the phenomenon of limited lifespan in vitro reflects true ageing and whether the limited proliferative capacity of normal, somatic cells in vitro and in vivo is an intrinsic and inevitable process.
