Abstract

Although man has studied animal behavior and utilized this knowledge to exploit animals since he first started hunting them for food in prehistoric times, the study of animal behavior is one of the newer scientific disciplines. Poultry producers and housing and equipment designers need to be aware of the behavioral characteristics of birds so that meat and eggs can be produced with optimum efficiency and with concern for the welfare and well-being of the birds.
