Phase States in Quantum Optics

Conference paper

The coherent states of bosons, among a lot of applications in different fields of Physics, are frequently used in the description of systems with “phase properties”: lasers in Quantum Optics, superfluids and superconductors (in terms of Cooper pairs) in Statistical Mechanics... More or less explicitly, the basic idea in such approaches is the following: the coherent state (for a single mode) |α> = ||α|e> is the state of the system with mean number of particles <N> = |α|2 and well-defined phase θ.
