Ultrafast Echotomographic System Using Optical Processing of Ultrasonic Signals

Abstract

Since a few years considerable progress have been done in the acoustical imaging techniques for biomedical applications. The superiority of strap a technique comes from its non invasive character, ease cf use and lack cl hazard, even for long and redundant insonification periods. The commercially available apparatuses have however resolution and the interpertation of the acoustic images is therefore difficult. Ultrafast systems are furthermore needed in the cardiologic field in order to get slow motion pictures of the very fast movments of the cardiac valves. An ultrafast apparatus of good resolution has been devised in our laboratory.
