Abstract
It has been our thesis that the primary action of alcohol in the central nervous system is on cell membranes. The conceptual and experimental background for such a contention has been reviewed to a large extent by Grenell (1957, 1959, 1971), Kalant (1971), Seeman (1972) and, in certain related respects by Mullins (1954).
