Abstract

Laryngeal papillomas are rapidly growing, noninvasive epithelial tumors caused by human papillomaviruses (HPV). They were first described as “warts in the throat” in the 17th century, differentiated clinically from other laryngeal masses and called papilloma in 1871. They are usually located on the true vocal cords and epiglottis, but can involve all of the larynx, the trachea, bronchial tubes, and even the lungs.
