Advances in Cryogenic Engineering

Part of the book series: Advances in Cryogenic Engineering ((ACRE,volume 14))

Abstract

The devising of means to convert heat partially Into useful work, and the transferring of heat from a low to a high temperature is a very fundamental problem of thermodynamics. The limits of what can be done are clearly defined by the Carnot cycle. In devising equipment to accomplish these objectives, the tendency has been to put together a series of Ideal processes to give a desired result and then to try to build equipment to accomplish this series of processes. This equipment may be very difficult to build.

Work sponsored by the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory (RTD), United States Air Force, AFSC, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, under contract No. AF33(615)-3381, and by the Engineering Energetics Division of the National Science Foundation under Grant No. GK 798.
