Abstract
The development of rocket engines utilizing cryogenic fluid propellants involves many specialized tests and the use of much specialized test equipment. This is particularly true where one of the propellants used is liquid hydrogen with its extremely low temperature and wide flammability limits, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft is currently developing for the Air Force under NASA direction the XLR 115 liquid-oxygen-liquid-hydrogen rocket engine. This paper will discuss some of the test equipment and procedures which are being employed in the XLR 115 engine development program at our Florida Research and Development Center near West Palm Beach, Fla.
