Strain Measurements at Cryogenic Temperatures

Abstract

Experimental stress analysis of complex structures has progressed substantially with the improvement of methods of strain measurement. In particular the use of the bonded strain gage has permitted the determination of strain distributions in parts of closed structures that are not readily accessible, has enabled the recording of dynamic as well as static strains, has yielded measurements well into the plastic region, and ha s extended the scope of strain measurements to extreme environments.
