Effect of Convection in Helium-Charged, Partial-Foam Insulations for Liquid Hydrogen Propellant Tanks
Liquid hydrogen, because of its low density and extremely low boiling point, requires very effective insulation during its storage and use as a fuel for space booster applications. For space booster. insulation is required to prevent excessive boiloff during the prelaunch phase and to minimize stratification during the boost phase. Minimizing stratification is essential in meeting the NPSH requirements of the rocket engines’ turbine pumps.
