Abstract

If superconducting wires or sheets are subjected to magnetic fields or currents, quenching occurs whenever the strength of the magnetic field or current exceeds certain critical values which are characteristic for the prevailing temperature and the materials used. This also holds true when the magnetic fields are caused by the currents flowing in the wires themselves.
