The Vapor Pressure of Liquid Fluorine
Liquid fluorine is one of the most energetic oxidizers known and is being considered as a propellant oxidizer in rocket propulsion systems. Its highly toxic and reactive properties, however, have discouraged research in determining its physical properties, which are required for engineering calculations and systems development. As a result, physical data on fluorine tend to be quite Inaccurate, extremely scarce, and in many cases, nonexistent. This paper reports new vapor pressure measurements of fluorine from the triple point to the critical point. These data were accumulated as the beginning phase of a comprehensive experimental program to determine the thermodynamic properties of liquid and gaseous fluorine from the triple point to 300°K at pressures to 20 MN/m2 (1 MN/m2 = 9.86923 atm).
