Abstract

With the rapid development of fabricating techniques for reactive metal alloys and radioactive materials, large-volume manufacturing facilities are now being built, In such facilities, high-temperature operations such as sintering and welding are performed in so-called “glove boxes” under an inert atmosphere of argon or helium. Since the diffusion of air through manipulating ports and the introduction of water vapor outgassing from the materials being processed contaminate the inert atmosphere, large volumes of blanket gas are flushed through the glove box to keep the impurity levels low.
