Role of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone in the Biosynthesis of LH and FSH by Rat Anterior Pituitary Cells in Culture

Due to the glycoprotein nature and subunit structure of gonadotropins, studies on the mechanism of biosynthesis of these hormones have been quite complicated. Different laboratories have used various types of approaches, which have or have not involved the incorporation of labeled amino acids or glucosamine by intact rat anterior pituitaries, pituitary halves, or tissue and cell cultures of anterior pituitaries. The effect of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) on the biosynthesis and release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) has also been examined by many authors.
