Transmissible Ileal Hyperplasia

Abstract

Transmissible ileal hyperplasia (TIH) is a common and devastating infectious disease of young hamsters. It has been described by other names (Table 1) that reflect different clinical and morphological interpretations. Unfortunately, the term “wet-tail” has been applied frequently, but it is non-specific since other gastrointestinal disorders of hamsters cause wet tails (diarrhea).
