Abstract

As a whole the physiological mechanisms of functional behavior of the main arteries (like other arteries) of the brain are much less understood than the functional behavior of the vascular mechanisms of the brain under different conditions described in the first part of this book. The reason is not so much that fewer investigations have been made of these problems, but that most work so far published has been carried out without any attempt to analyze functional differences between different parts of the cerebrovascular system. Only the blood flow or the total cerebrovascular resistance was recorded in them, and consequently, the problems could not be attacked from the aspect with which we are concerned in this book.
