In the example, the dream images are associated with strong feelings. In giving the images a concrete form in reality through painting, the images and feelings are transformed and personalized. The fearful aspects of the images are transformed into something known, and therefore not threatening. The unknown quality is relegated to a less threatening object than the original image. What is common to these images? They all have a form, they are associated with feelings, and they possess aspects which are not fully known, but are represented symbolically.
