In this talk I would like to briefly outline an attempt by Werner Nahm, Valerie Rubakov and myself, to take into account all the long-range quantum fields outside a ’t Hooft-Polyakov monopole in grand unified theories such as SU(5). This means we must also deal with non-Abelian color strong interactions and the effect they have on s-wave quarks, the latter being the relevant quark degrees of freedom regarding the interaction with the monopole core.
