Algebraic Construction of Gauge Invariant Theories

Abstract

We give an algorithm for building gauge theories. It is based on the enlargment of space time by adjunction of additional but unphysical coordinates. The method enlights the relationship between the generating functional of anomalies in d-dimension space time and the topological invariants in d+2 dimension. We illustrate the general method with specific examples and show cases in which anomalies can occur for an even as well as for an odd number of space-time dimensions.
