Hormonal Diabetes Secondary to Extrapancreatic Endocrinopathies

  • Bruno W. Volk
  • Klaus F. Wellmann

Several endocrine disorders exhibit varying degrees of glucose intolerance. Most of these syndromes are associated with only mild hyperglycemia, glycosuria, or a decreased tolerance that returns to normal after correction of the underlying disease. Overt diabetes with symptomatic hyperglycemia and ketosis as well as diabetic complications are uncommon, unless an underlying genetic predisposition is also present in the same patient.
