Abstract

Islet amyloid (IA) deposits have been recognized since 19001, and their association with diabetes mellitus has been recognized in humans2,3, cats4,5, and non-human primates6,7. IA also occurs in the raccoon8,9 and degu (Octodon degus) but its association with diabetes in these latter species is not clear.
