Human plasma transthyretin (TTR) has been implicated as the main protein component of amyloid fibrils in the hereditary syndromes and in the senile cardiovascular amyloidoses. Partial sequence studies performed on amyloid protein ASc1 isolated from amyloid fibrils derived from patients with senile cardiovascular amyloidosis have shown homology with normal TTR (1–3).
