Abstract
Sonja Smith (not her real name) was a 35-year-old graduate student in psychology; at the time of the sampling, she was married, with a small child. Sonja was born and lived in Austria until late adolescence, at which time she lived in London for several years, moving to the United States about seven years before the present study. Thus, her native language is German and American English is the second English dialect she acquired. Nonetheless, she was an extremely fluent American English speaker. The words quoted from the thoughts described in this chapter were originally in English; that is, they are not translated.
