Knowing full well that I know nothing whatsoever about secondary metabolism and less about fermentation, Dr. Kosuge has asked me to give my perspective as a biochemist of plant biotechnology. In view of these limitations, my perspective must be confined to that area of plant biotechnology that I try to keep up with, that based upon recombinant DNA technology.
