Significance of Pelvic Shape In the Treatment of Pelvic Arrest

  • Charles M. Steer

A common method of delivery used in the treatment of midpelvic arrest consists in the cephalic application of forceps (Barton or Kielland forceps) to the transverse position with anterior lateral flexion, descent to the pelvic floor in the same position, and low anterior rotation. Two types of pelves are commonly found associated with this mechanism, the android with straight side walls and the flat type (Fig. 44).
