A Socio-Cultural Comparison of Lifestyles and Survival Differences Between Chinese and Black Addicts on Methadone in New York City
One prevailing assumption about hard core drug addicts is that they do not survive the hazards of their dangerous and demanding lifestyle and that they die young. Another assumption is that the social and psychological behavior of drug dependent persons is alike. And almost no attention has been given in the literature to addicts who survive and die of old age. Little attention also has been given to the ethnic addict whose drug abuse behavior is primarily influenced by his cultural background, making his social and psychological behavior different from other addicts.
