Innovations in Vocational Rehabilitation: 1) Brief, Intensive Job Attainment Training

  • Chapter
Drug Dependence and Alcoholism

Abstract

Job-attainment training (vocational orientation) is essentially any group or individual process which promotes some kind of appreciation for the attainment of a job. This presentation consists of some ideas and feelings we have garnered from thinking about and doing vocational orientation, both individually and in groups. We believe they have been consistent enough for us to form coherent conclusions and make some assumptions about how the techniques we have developed can be most effectively applied. We shall confine our remarks to group job attainment training, because they can be translated directly to an individual approach, and they are most relevant to a counselor’s need to reach the most people in the time available.
