Brillouin Scattering Study of Incommensurate Crystals
A sound velocity dispersion in the incommensurate phase of NaNO2 appears in the propagation of the longitudinal sound wave along the  direction contrary to the other two directions  and , where no dispersion appears. Brillouin scattering study shows a negative result on the asymmetric propagation of the transverse wave in the incommensurate phase of NaNO2. The lower incommensurate phase of Ba2NaNb5O15 has similar relaxational mechanisms to those in the upper incommensurate phase.
